About ADHD

What is ADHD?

ADHD is a complex neurodevelopmental condition affecting roughly 5% of the population — around 3.5 million people in the UK, many of whom remain undiagnosed. Because early symptoms are frequently overlooked, many people aren't diagnosed until adulthood.

ADHD is not a result of poor parenting, dietary choices, or lack of effort. Research confirms real differences in brain structure and function — which is why accurate assessment matters so much.

Our evaluations follow NICE guidelines and include detailed clinical interviews, a review of developmental history, and evidence-based diagnostic rating scales. For children, we also look at school reports where available.
Absolutely. While online appointments work well for most people, face-to-face assessments can be arranged on request at our Peterborough location.
You receive a detailed written report with practical recommendations. We can advise on appropriate next steps, including onward referral for treatment or support.
Our clinical reports provide a clear record of the assessment findings and may support discussions with healthcare professionals, schools, employers or other organisations where relevant. Each organisation decides what evidence it requires, so The Thistle Clinic cannot guarantee third-party acceptance.
